Important information on app use on iPhones with iOS 17.4 in the EU

01.03.2024/2 Comments/in Carus editors' place /by Blog-Team Carus-Verlag

Status update: Apple will continue to allow web apps in the EU in future

According to a recent statement, Apple will now continue to support web app functionalities on iPhones. Apple is thus deviating from its original course.

For you, this means that the functionalities of carus music, the Choir Coach, will continue to be fully available even after the release of iOS 17.4.

We will keep you informed about further developments and thank you for your trust and understanding.

We hereby inform you that due to the upcoming release of Apple’s iOS version 17.4, the EU-wide app usage of carus music, the Choir Coach, will no longer work on iPhone devices. This only applies to iPhones in the EU – and only if the new operating version is installed. Outside the EU and on all other devices, carus music will continue to work as usual.

The Apple update to iOS 17.4. prevents the web app functionalities from being used any longer. This affects not only our practice app carus music, but also a large number of browser-based apps and their users. Apple confirmed that the opening of iOS to third-party browsers by the European Union’s Digital Market Act was the reason for the removal of web app functionality in the EU. For its part, the EU Commission is now collecting data to discuss the impact of the measure on developers and users. In addition, the EU is already examining the extent to which Apple’s decision on progressive web apps is even legal.

Unfortunately, the information from Apple came at extremely short notice. Carus is working intensively to find alternative solutions for the affected iPhone users of carus music.

We have the following recommendations and alternatives for you:

✔ Use our practice app carus music in the desktop version on your laptop or PC (incl. MAC book)

✔ Use carus music on your iPad

✔ Use carus music on an Android cell phone or tablet

✔ Do not update to iOS 17.4 and continue to use all your web apps as usual

We would like to point out that the use of web apps may well be possible again in the future.

We will of course keep you up to date as soon as there is new information. It is important to us at this point to proactively inform our users immediately.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your trust and understanding in this matter.

Est-ce que cette décision s’applique aussi aux utilisateurs suisses ?
